Marigold Species in Pakistan

Marigolds are scientifically known as Tagetes, a genus of 50 species of flowering plants. In Pakistan, the most commonly seen garden Marigolds belong to the following species:

  • Tagetes erecta – African Marigold, commonly referred to as “Marigold”; in Urdu: گیندا.

  • Tagetes patula – French Marigold; in Urdu: جعفری.

Additionally, some gardeners may refer to Pot Marigold or English Marigold, which is botanically a different plant (Calendula officinalis). For convenience, seeds of this type are also included in this category.
